What is Motion Graphic Animation?

When a business owner, like you, is trying to get their business to stand out, there are a lot of options out there. With the ever-growing world of video, there are still a wide variety of options. The two primary choices are video production and animation. No doubt you have been told about the benefits of choosing animation, but even within that choice there are still decisions to be made. There are many different types of animation to choose from when considering animation. One of the most popular choices is motion graphic animation, but do you know what it is? Could you identify it when you see it?

Let’s start with the definition of what motion graphic animation is. According to Wikipedia: “Motion graphics are graphics that use video footage and/or animation technology to create the illusion of motion or rotation, and are usually combined with audio for use in multimedia projects… The term is useful for distinguishing still graphics from graphics with a transforming appearance over time without over-specifying the form.” Now you are thinking… what does that really mean?

There is a thin, somewhat blurred, line between motion graphics and traditional animation. The generally accepted distinction lies where traditional animated film features a story in which characters express themselves while in motion graphics the characters express themselves directly. Common applications of motion graphics are in film credit sequences, lower third elements, animated logos at the end of commercials, television channel identifiers, websites and television advertisements just to name a few. We can find these elements almost every day in the media or in our internet activities.

So why should you choose to use motion graphics? Well, motion graphics are a great way to capture the attention and connect with your audience. They also help you get your message across simply and effectively. Motion graphic animation is usually cheaper and faster to create than traditional or 3D animation. While this may not be the best choice for every business, now that you are aware of what it is, you might just find that it could help your business or service really stand out from the crowd.
